According to a report by Portuguese newspaper Lusa, the government of Timor-Leste is looking to finalise negotiations with Timor Telecom (TT) to end the telecoms operator’s monopoly in the coming months. The announcement was made by Timorese prime minister Xanana Gusmao during a meeting with the country’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Mr Gusmao said that the government intends to conclude negotiations with TT, which is a subsidiary of Portugal Telecom, by the end of October, with plans to license new telecoms operators to enable them to start providing services in early 2012
